Constant Pressure Effects on Lithium ion cells

This project involved Designing, Builing, and testing a fixture to apply constant pressure on batteries independent of swelling/displacement.

Battering cooling with 3D Printed Metal

The main objective of this project was to determine if liquid cooling systems could be created by 3D printing metal-infused plastic. The goal was to see if a hobbyist, budget, 3D printer could create a system that cools a battery cell using water as the cooling fluid. The copper-infused cooling system was able to cool the heat source at 40W of power and kept the temperature of the bottom of the battery under 60°C. The copper-infused system had 3.3 times the conductivity of the plastic system, which was less than expected, possibly due to contact conductivity loss.

Formula Student: Oxford Brookes University

At Oxford Brookes University, I optimized the 600V battery pack cooling and electronics packaging. I also helped build/service the battery pack, and fabricate aerodynamic parts. Photo credit: Oxford Brookes Racing

Research Paper: Electrification of a Class 8 Heavy-Duty Truck Considering Battery Pack Sizing and Cargo Capacity

Studied the effect of battery pack size on carrying capacity, and the resulting effects on vehicle range for a Class 8 Heavy-Duty Truck. Pack size varied from 399-513 kWh, with the 399kWh battery pack reaching its minimum voltage with 50% and 100% loads. Link

Comparing upright and cornering motorcycle aerodynamics

This study used STAR-CCM+ to numerically compare cornering aerodynamics of motorcycles to straight-line aerodynamics for a high-performance motorcycle and rider. Resulting drag coefficients were 0.44 for the upright scenario and 0.55 for the cornering scenario. The cornering scenario had increased lift and frontal area, and introduced a roll moment, yaw moment, and a side-force.

Teaching Arduino with sensors for a water pump

A water pump system was designed and built to allow students to gather data using sensors monitored by an Arduino. Conducted at Oxford Brookes University, for the laboratory lecture I led.

Sporknyfe

Do you use a fork to eat dinner? How about a knife? How about a spoon for soup? What if you could use just one utensil instead of 3? Introducting the Sporknyfe. Solve all your eating problems by using one tool for any job!

Popcorn machine tilter

Does your popcorn machine shoot out kernels before they're popped? Mine does. The popcorn machine tilter fits snuggly onto the base of the machine and keeps those pesky kernels in place until they turn into a crunchy, salty treat.
